The Writing Center for the Graduate School of Leadership and Change is an online hub for students who want help with their writing while in the Leadership and Change doctoral program. The Writing Center is staffed by our Writing Center Director, Dr. Elaine Gale, and is located in the Program’s virtual  platform. Dr. Gale works part-time for the program and her weekly editing and coaching hours are regularly scheduled Thursday and Friday.
A centerpiece service provided by the Writing Center is a detailed five-page edit of any student work, with the editing focus on clarity and organization or help with references, grammar, or style. Feedback can be either on Zoom, over the phone or in writing, and will include an overview of patterns Dr. Gale sees in the student writing—the focus of the feedback will be balanced to include issues a student can target for growth in their writing life and also what a student already does well to celebrate as a strength. Dr. Gale also offers live edits. Book an appointment and we edit a paper together in real-time on Zoom.

Another main service offered by the Writing Center are individualized writing coaching appointments where Dr. Gale and the student work through writing blocks that may hold back student progress and then create specific, reasonable action-based plans to help students with a sustainable writing practice. In addition to edits and coaching calls, Dr. Gale also offers monthly Writing Drop-In Workshops on Zoom about all kinds of topics that include Revision Tips and Tricks, Writer’s Block, Academic Style 101, Staying Organized, Avoiding Stress and Burnout, Creating a Sustainable Writing Practice and Core Motivation.

Bio: Elaine Gale has served as the Writing Center Director for the GSLC since 2005. She has an MFA in creative writing from Antioch University, Los Angeles and was a reporter for the Los Angeles Times as well as the Star Tribune and a national freelance writer.
