Getting Started - Mod 9: ILA A/B and the Library

By the time you are ready to start your ILA projects, you should...
 

 Have a basic understanding of peer-reviewed research: what it is, where to find it, how to access it effectively, and how to critically assess what you find.

 Have a basic comfort level with searching databases on multiple platforms 

 Be able to articulate how these ILAs will help with your dissertation.

MOD 6 Touchpoint: How Can the Library Help You with Your ILA?

The ILA learning achievement is an opportunity to take the knowledge and skills from the previous curricular modules and shape the direction and content that will help you as you position towards candidacy. the goals and scope are not pre-determined, but are set by you, which is why you need to be able to create and adapt a thesis statement based on research and need as needed.

For both ILAs (content and research), a key learning goal relevant to the library is:

  1. To engage in critical reflective learning by discussing theories, concepts, and themes drawn from the literature, analyzing and synthesizing them.

and relevant evaluation criteria are:

  1. The selection of evidence of goal(s) accomplishment is coherent to the goals, consistent with the strategies, and provides for the demonstration of doctoral- level scholarship and reflection.
  2. Coherence with student’s doctoral study.

  1. Continue the application of the Multi-Strategy Search Model at the doctoral level
  2. Become adept at recognizing gaps in your knowledge, and at constructing a search strategy to meet those gaps
